"I will never be able to look a Malfoy in the face again!." Lily wailed, letting her forehead hit the table.
James silently rested his elbows on the table.
"Now you can say something."
"Chances are, Narcissa didn't tell Malfoy, think about that one. He hates me as it is, he would probably fly into a murderous rage and hit anything in sight, including Narcissa."
"Great, so Narcissa-Holier-Than-Thou-I'm-Better-Than-Everyone-Malfoy is the only person I can't look at now. Thanks a whole freaking lot." Lily's eyes were sparkling with jealously, and more than a little anger. "Ahhhh!" Lily pulled her shirt over her eyes. "I'm going to die of humiliation! All those times I've been around her since then! And she must have been thinking things that I won't get into at the moment involving you, her, and the exchange of bodily fluids."
"Lily, you're ov-"
"James, really put some thought into it before you tell me I'm over-reacting! What would you do if I told you I slept with Severus Snape while we were broken up?" Lily stood up, bracing her hands on the table so she could yell directly at James.
"I would kill the bast*rd." James also stood up in a similar manner, so they were a short distance apart. "And that had sure as hell be a hypothetical question."
"So it was okay for you to do what I did, but I couldn't do the same thing?"
"What I did was wrong, and I know that. A million and one things could have gone wrong to completely destroy my life, but they didn't. I know it was stupid and foolish, but I didn't realize it then. All I knew was that I loved you, but I couldn't have you."
"I'm not going to feel sorry for you."
"I don't expect you to! This isn't a question of ethics, because I recognize that it wasn't right. It's a question of whether you're going to allow us to move on with our lives."
The rational part of Lily realized that he had an excellent point, but finding out that James had slept with Narcissa Malfoy, of all people, while they were broken up didn't allow her rational self to prevail. Instead, the extremely mad and amazingly jealous part of her took over. "I don't believe moving on is an option at this point in time. Because, right about now, there isn't words to describe my anger, and yes, I am very jealous."
"Lily, please don't be that way, I love you. I'm sorry, and I know nothing I say will take the hurt that you're feeling away, but I honestly regret what I did."
James was two seconds from throwing himself at Lily's feet when she stepped around the table to slap him as hard as she possibl could, leaving a discolored red mark plainly visible on his face. Lily turned from the hurt look in his eyes to slam out of the room. She eventually curled up in the old couch snuggled in the dark corner of the library, wishing that Aurora Sage could show up. This was one of those times that she would love some advice, from anybody capable of giving it.
An hour later, James found her asleep in that same couch. He stared guiltily at her for awhile, finally making himself leave with just a kiss on her cheek when he saw the snowball fight breaking up outside. James then dragged himself into his study, where he knew nobody would come in other than Lily, Sirius, Harry, or possibly Remus.
